Velocity Girl - Albums and EPs

Velocity Girl's set of 12" vinyl is the polar opposite of its 7"s - not many releases and (mostly) not hard to find.  They only had three real full-length albums, and only one of those exists on rare colors.  There were a couple of important compilations in there as well, which I have included in the list.

V/A - The Pre-Moon Syndrome Post-Summer (of Noise) Celebration Week!

Sun Dog Propaganda, released 1990

Contains the Velocity Girl song "Blackzilla"

"Blackzilla" appears to be an early version of "Not At All."  This compilation was released on vinyl and in cassette form.  Lots of DC bands playing live in DC in September 1989.  I have included this record because the track is not available elsewhere and it was a significant moment in the band's development.

V/A - Fortune Cookie Prize

Simple Machines SMR 007, released 1991

Contains the Velocity Girl song "Tales of Brave Aphrodite"

This was a Beat Happening tribute compilation released on Simple Machines.  Black vinyl.

CD-only release on Slumberland compiling the songs from the two versions of the I Don't Care If You Go single and the My Forgotten Favorite single.

Copacetic

Sub Pop SP196, released March 1993

Sub Pop SP75/242 (Germany)

Velocity Girl's first full-length album - very solid release.  I would like it a lot more if the vocals were audible, but it's very good nonetheless.  It exists on several different colors of vinyl.  None of them are particularly rare, but the purple marble one can occasionally fetch a few bucks.  I have seen it on clear blue, blue-grey marble, and purple marble vinyl.  There may be more varieties.  One of the blue ones (the blue-grey one, I think, but I am not positive) can still be purchased new from Sub Pop.  The European release was of 1000 copies on red vinyl, with some more on black.

Sub Pop SP247, released June 1994

Sub Pop SP122/303 (Germany)

This was by far my favorite Velocity Girl album.  Lots of solid material here.  Released on black vinyl in the U.S. and in Europe.  The U.S. vinyl is still available from Sub Pop.  The European version was limited to 1000 copies, and came with a promotional 7" - the Labrador single.

Version Approximate value ($)
SP247 Black 8
SP122/303 Black 8-10

Gilded Stars and Zealous Hearts

Sub Pop SP340, released March 1996

Velocity Girl's final effort was definitely its most polished work.  There isn't much on this album that really grabs me, with a notable couple of exceptions.  The glitter vinyl version was produced in the UK (like the color vinyl Nothing single).  It is a really interesting effect.  The vinyl is clear...but it has a bunch of red glitter in it.  I am still trying to figure out how this was possible without ruining the recording.  U.S. black vinyl still available from Sub Pop.
