A Record Collector's Guide to
Team Dresch

Singles and LPs

Team Dresch...definitely one of those bands I found through the true lost art form in the digital age: the compilation.  Let's see...I think it went like this...I got into Tiger Trap through a friend of mine, and in my obsessive tendency to track down every song by any band for which I develop a taste, I picked up the Julep compilation on Yo-Yo.  This led me to a song by Tattle Tale that I liked.  Tattle Tale and Go Sailor had tracks on another Yo-Yo comp, Periscope...which also contained a song by Team Dresch.  I liked it.  I thought it was very solid.  Then, while I was back in Tokyo the following summer, I came across their "Personal Best" cd in a used cd store, and that, as they say, was all she wrote.  I was hooked pretty quickly, and the band's very small number of releases has only gotten more appealing over time.  Team Dresch was an excellent mix of talents.  All have gone on to do very good other things: Kaia's solo stuff, the Butchies, Davies vs. Dresch, the Infinite X's...all have great moments.  However, when all were together, it was an even better combination of voices, powerful music, and energy.

Rock Stars Kill Compilation LP + Bonus 7"
Contains the Team Dresch Song "Seven"
Kill Rocks Stars KRS-221, released 1994

The early recording by Team Dresch was probably overshadowed by some of the (at that time) heavier hitters on this now legendary compilation.  Solid first effort.  Black vinyl LP + bonus black vinyl 7".  The Team Dresch song is on the LP.

Summary:

Color Approximate value ($)
Black 9

Hand Grenade / Endtime Relay b/w Molasses in January 7"
Kill Rock Stars KRS-227, released 1994

This was one hell of a debut single.  I think "Hand Grenade" is one of the best songs Team Dresch ever recorded, hands down.  An all around favorite of mine.  Kill Rock Stars.  Black vinyl.

Summary:

Version Approximate value ($)
Black 8-10

Sleeve: Paper foldover

Personal Best LP
Chainsaw / Candy-Ass CAR 11, released 1994

Truly excellent album.  Not much more to say there.  This is the one that really hooked me on this band.  Joint release on Chainsaw (Donna Dresch's label) and Candy-Ass (Jody Bleyle's label).  Black vinyl.

Summary:

Version/Color Approximate value ($)
Black 15-20

V/A - Free to Fight! 2xLP
Contains the Team Dresch song "Song for Anne Bannon"
Candy-Ass CAR-012, released May 1995

Released on cd and as a double LP.

Summary:

Version Approximate Value ($)
2xLP Black 12-15

Captain My Captain LP
Chainsaw / Candy-Ass 18, released 1995

The second and final full-length album released in the short-lived career of Team Dresch.  Melissa York replaced Marci Martinez on drums for this album

Summary:

Version Approximate value ($)
Black 10-12

Team Dresch/Bikini Kill Spring Tour 1996 Split 7"
Team Dresch - Take on Me b/w Bikini Kill - Capri Pants
Banda Bonnot BB024, released 1996

I just found out this one existed about 15 minutes before writing this.  Oops.  Apparently, I have some more work to do.  From what I have read, there were 500 of these pressed to go along with the two bands' European tour.  I guess this is fairly rare.  Black vinyl?  That's my guess until proven otherwise.

Summary:

Version Approximate value ($)
Black 15-20

V/A - Team Dresch - What Can a Lover Do? / F-80 - Casanova b/w Shove - Sock Tan / Dahlia Seed - Standing 8 Count
Marigold MAR-2, released 1996

4-band 7" compilation containing a Team Dresch song that is kind of a throwaway.  It's not bad...just not particularly interesting.  Good for completeness.

Summary:

Color Approximate Value ($)
Black 8-10

The New Team Dresch 6.0 Beta 7"
Deattached b/w Venus Lacy
Outpunk out 20, released 1998

Team Dresch returns after a bit of a layoff minus Kaia, who had taken off to pursue her solo career.  You can definitely tell she is missing, but unlike most bands that lose amazing musicians, the material that Team Dresch released from here on in was all very solid.

Summary:

Version/Color Approximate value ($)
Black 8-10

Team Dresch/Longstocking Split 7"
Team Dresch - It's a Conversation b/w Longstocking - Never Nowhere
Sub Pop SP439, released August 1998

Sub Pop Singles Club V2 #5.  1300 copies, all on clear orange vinyl.  Very good song.  It made me happy that Team Dresch and Sub Pop could put something together.  The value of this record has held steady over the better part of the past decade since its release.  I always figured it would appreciate, and it never really did.  Some of these had separate loose inserts in addition to the attached ones.

Summary:

Version/Color Approximate value ($)
Orange (1300) 10-15

Sleeve: Thick-stock paper foldover w/ insert attached

Test Pressing: Black vinyl, small hole, generic yellow Erika Records labels.

Team Dresch/The Automaticans Split 7"
Team Dresch - Temporary Insurance b/w The Automaticans - Audrey
Mental Monkey, released 2000

The last Team Dresch release...or was it?  The band reunited for some shows in 2007.  I was in living in Switzerland at the time, so, sadly, I have still never seen them play.  They teased us with the proclamation that there would be a new album in 2008.  No word on whether that will actually be the case.  Anyway, the last single here came out on both clear and black vinyl.  Both are fairly easy to find.

Summary:

Version Approximate value ($)
Clear 8-10
Black 6-8

Sleeve: Full glossy
