Go Sailor - Albums and Singles

Continuing from the end of the Tiger Trap era, this page covers another of Rose Melberg's projects: Go Sailor.  Go Sailor's entire catalogue spans 14 songs, spread over three singles and two compilation appearances.  Go Sailor was like Tiger Trap minus the occasional loud guitar moment.  It was like the energy that had once been placed behind the electric guitar was suddenly funneled into lyrics.  Go Sailor songs were either revoltingly sweet or delightfully bitter.  Sometimes both.  Good stuff.

V/A - Periscope

Yo Yo Recordings YOYO 3, released 1994

Contains the Go Sailor song "Last Year"

Very soon after the demise of Tiger Trap, Go Sailor songs started appearing.  This comp was the first of those appearances.  It came out on purple marble and black vinyl.  The purple one is more of a blue-purple marble color than that of the Julep compilation.

YOYO 3 Purple Marble 40-50
YOYO 3 Black 15-20

Fine Day for Sailing/I'm Still Crying b/w I Just Do/Bigger Than an Ocean

Yo Yo Recordings YOYO 7-1, released 1994

The first of the three Go Sailor 7" EPs that came out in quick succession in 1994 was released on Yo Yo.  It was on both mint blue-green marble and black vinyl.

Version Approximate value ($)
YOYO 7-1 Blue-green Marble 15-20

V/A - A Slice of Lemon 2xLP

Lookout!/Kill Rock Stars KRS100, released 1995

Contains the Go Sailor song "Silly"

This was always an odd compilation.  It was a joint release between Lookout! and Kill Rock Stars, and the bands on it were all over the map.  Double LP, black vinyl.

Version Approximate value ($)
LK-100/KRS 100 Black 10-12

Long Distance/Windy b/w Blue Sky/The Boy Who Sailed Around the World

Slumberland SLR 036, released 1995

Long Distance is one of the greatest sweet-sounding but truly evil songs out there.  Good stuff.  Mail order copies of this record were on red marble vinyl.  The rest were on black.

Version Approximate value ($)
SLR 036 Red Marble 25-30
SLR 036 Black 15-20
Sleeve Thick-stock paper foldover

Don't Go/Ray of Sunshine b/w Together Forever in Love/Every Day

Lookout! LK-137, released 1995

Abruptly, this was the end of the line for Go Sailor.  14 songs on two comps and three 7"s.  I am fairly certain this one only came out on mint blue marble vinyl.

Version Approximate value ($)
LK-137 Mint Blue Marble 8-10
Sleeve Full glossy

Go Sailor CD

Lookout! LK-153, released 1996

Wrapping up the Go Sailor recordings was this cd, released on Lookout! after all of the aforementioned vinyl had come out.  It has all 14 of their songs on it, and the insert doesn't fit into the tray correctly.  That always bothered me.

Version Approximate value ($)
LK-153 CD 15-20
